Sumo Wrestling

Sumo wrestling is a traditional Japanese sport and martial art characterized by its unique rules and rituals. It involves two wrestlers, called rikishi, who compete in a circular ring (dohyo) with the primary objective of forcing their opponent out of the ring or making any part of their body other than the soles of their feet touch the ground. Sumo is steeped in Shinto religious traditions, and matches are preceded by elaborate ceremonies, including the tossing of salt to purify the ring. Wrestlers are categorized into different ranks, with the highest rank being yokozuna. Sumo wrestling is not only a physical contest but is also a cultural event that reflects Japanese heritage, discipline, and the spirit of sportsmanship.
